The Solúcar platform held its third Open Day for residents of Sanlúcar la Mayor, coinciding with Andalusia Day
Sevilla, March 6, 2009
Residents of the sevillian town of Sanlúcar la Mayor made the most of Andalusia Day by attending Open Day at the Solúcar platform. The event took place on February 28 and was organized by Abengoa Solar.
In this third edition, more than five hundred citizens of all ages enjoyed a guided tour of the platform facilities, getting an up-close view of the first three solar power stations in use: PS10, Seville PV and Casaquemada PV. The latter, a photovoltaic technology- based installation with a capacity of 1.9 megawatts, went into operation last September. This year’s visit also included a stop in front of the Casaquemada estate for a chance to see the first three parabolic trough plants under construction: Solnova 1, 3 and 4.
Visitors also got the chance to see the parabolic trough demonstration plant and find out about other research and development projects currently undergoing testing at the platform.
From 11 a.m. to 14:00 p.m., members of the Sanlúcar la Mayor community were provided with shuttle buses to take them from the La Corredera fairgrounds to the platform.
The huge success of the Open Day event was made possible thanks to the voluntary participation of Abengoa Solar employees who helped coordinate the event and provided explanations during the guided tours of the different power plants.
The interest the Solúcar platform has awoken in the Sevillian municipality and the continuous requests to visit the facilities prompted Abengoa Solar to organize this third edition.
